Apple Federal Credit Union Scholarship
Available to: James Wood, Millbrook and Sherando High Schools
The recipient must meet the following criteria:
A graduating student in good standing
Must have been accepted and plans to attend an accredited college or university
MUST intend to pursue a career in TEACHING
Brumback Family Agricultural Scholarship
Available to: James Wood or Sherando High School
The recipient must meet the following criteria:
Be a graduating senior from either James Wood or Sherando High School
Attend an accredited institution of higher learning offering a two- or four-year degree, including a vocational institution
Intend to study in an agriculture related field
Have studied agriculture for at least two years in high school, preferably in his/her junior/senior years
Have a grade point average of at least 2.5
Jim and Eleanor Casey Scholarship
Available to: James Wood (one), Millbrook (two) and Sherando (one) High Schools
The recipient must meet the following criteria:
An athlete of good character
Eugene B. Cooper Scholarship
Available to: James Wood, Millbrook and Sherando High Schools (one for each school)
The recipient must meet the following criteria:
A graduating student in good standing
The student has been accepted by an accredited college, university, or trade school
The student must possess good character traits
The applicant must include an original essay (no more than two pages in length) to address the reason they are worthy of the scholarship
Hunter T. Crane Memorial Scholarship
Available to: James Wood, Millbrook and Sherando High Schools
The recipient must meet the following criteria:
A graduating student in good standing
Has been accepted and plans to attend an accredited college, university, or trade school
Must possess good character traits
Must include an essay, no more than two pages in length, entitled “My Life Rules”
Jacob Crawford Memorial Scholarship
Available to : James Wood, Millbrook, Sherando
Selection Committee: FCEF Awards committee and scholarship originator(Mel Savarese)
The recipient must meet the following criteria:
· graduating student in good standing
· been accepted and plans to atten an accredited college, university or trade school
· must possess good character traits
· must have participated in a varsity sport for 1 or more years
· must include an essay 1-2 pages. The topic of the essay “how I will use my life to make the world a better place”
Crosen Family Scholarship
Available to: James Wood, Millbrook and Sherando High Schools (one for each school)
The recipient must meet the following criteria:
Participation in Athletics
Financial need
Work/Community participation/Volunteerism
Aaron W. Disque Memorial Scholarship
Available to: Sherando High School
The recipient must meet the following criteria:
Pursuing a career in golf (a priority but not a requirement)
Has been accepted and plans to attend an accredited college, university, or vocational school
Must possess good character traits
A student in good standing
Include an essay (no more than two pages in length) entitled “If I Could Do Anything in Life, What Would it be and Why?”
Robert Anthony Eriksson Memorial Scholarship
Available to: Sherando High School
The recipient must meet the following criteria:
a graduating student in good standing
has been accepted and plans to attend an accredited college, or trade school
Financial need
Community Service
Write their own poem or choose an existing poem and discuss what it means to them
Frederick County Government 2024 Scholarship
Available to James Wood, Millbrook and Sherando
Selection Committee: FCEF Awards Committee and representative from FC Gov’t
Recipient must meet the following criteria:
· Accepted and plans to attend Laurel Ridge Community College
· Must be a FCPS student in good standing
· Must have a 2.5 or higher GPA
· Must show financial need
Brody Michael Foundation Scholarship
Available to: James Wood, Sherando, Millbrook High Schools
Selection Committee: FCWF Awards Committee and representatives of the Brody Michael Foundation
The recipient must meet the following criteria:
Graduating senior with a GPA of 3.0 or higher
To have played basketball during high school
Essay titled “What does the phrase “Be Like Brody” mean to you? (To “Be Like Brody” means having positivity and compassion for life and those around you. Finding the best in every situation. Being nonjudgmental because you know it’s okay to be different, but still loving one another because we are all human. Believing in kindness and knowing that “please and thank you” go a long way. It’s about asking someone how they are doing and truly caring about their response, waiting for an answer, hoping to make them smile or at least make their day better. Learning from your mistakes and realizing everyone makes them. And, that it’s okay as long as you learn from it. Laughing everyday. It’s living your life to your fullest potential because that’s what Brody did for 14 years and made such an impact on all who knew him.”)
Douglas A. Moyer Memorial Scholarship
Available to: Sherando High School
The recipient must meet the following criteria:
Have participated in an AG program such as FFA
Be a student in good standing
Letter of Recommendation from an AG teacher
Northern Shenandoah Valley Master Gardeners Association Scholarship
Available to: James Wood, Millbrook and Sherando High Schools
The recipient must meet the following criteria:
Career goal must be horticulture or in an agriculture-related field
Must have taken at least 3 high school classes in any of the following subjects: biology, agriculture, horticulture, earth science, environmental science or a similar field of study
Are currently or have been a member/volunteer of an agriculture-related program through a community service organization, cooperative extension,FFA, 4H, etc.
Minimum overall GPA of 3.0
Must submit a letter of recommendation from a faculty member, employer, or from a leader of one of your listed volunteer organizations
· Must submit an essay on one of the following:
1. Describe your volunteer or work experiences and how these experiences have impacted your future career goals.
2. Discuss the life experiences that led you to your career goals, and how this scholarship will help you achieve your goals.
3. Discuss how you feel your career goals will impact your family and community.
Orndorff/Holtzman Memorial Scholarship
Available to: Sherando High School
The recipient must meet the following criteria:
Financial need
Service to the community through volunteerism (service organization, church, etc.)
Myrtle D. Rhodes Scholarship
Available to: Sherando High School
The recipient must meet the following criteria:
Be a Sherando graduate
Be attending an institution of higher learning in the upcoming fall
Must have a Middletown address
Mary Richard Women in Agriculture Memorial Scholarship
Available to: James Wood, Sherando, Millbrook
Nominating and selection: Foundation awards committee and a member of the Richard family.
The eligibility for application for the “Mary Richard Women in Agriculture Memorial Scholarship” are as follows:
Student in good standing with GPA 2.5 and above
Participated in an AG program for at least 2 years (such a FFA)
Pursue a career in the Agricultural industry
Submit an essay (maximum of 2 pages) answering the following questions.
1- What are your future goals?
2- How do you plan to further your education with the funds from the Mary Richard Women in Agriculture Memorial Scholarship?
This scholarship will awardwd only of the recipient does not receive a FuLL scholarship from another source.
Rinker Vocational Scholarship
Available to: Sherando High School
The recipient must meet the following criteria:
Attend a vocational/trade school or college majoring in agriculture, business, or education; or seek approved skill certification and tools to meet and perform such certification; or upgrade their skills for a qualified career objective
Joseph P. and Barbara Roby Memorial Scholarship
Available to: James Wood, Millbrook and Sherando High Schools
The recipient must meet the following criteria:
Financial need
A one-page essay entitled “What Defines Christian Character”
St. John’s Baptist Church Foundation Scholarship
Available to: Sherando High School
Nominating/Selection Committee: The Foundation Awards Committee
The recipient must meet the following criteria:
· A graduating senior from Sherando High School
· Has been accepted and plans to attend an accredited college or university pursuing an Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Religious Studies to continue in or prepare for Christian Service
· Must include an essay (no more than 2 pages) that describes what you have done to have a positive influence in your church, community and school
· Have a grade point average of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale
· Exhibit financial need
· Must currently attend church and participate in youth or other ministries for the past year or longer
· Must submit a letter of recommendation from your Pastor or youth leader
· Must submit a letter of recommendation from a faculty member, employer, or a leader of an organization where you volunteer your services
Heather Smelser and Pam Coffman Memorial Scholarship
Available to: Sherando High Schools
The recipient must meet the following criteria:
A graduating student in good standing
Must have been accepted and plans to attend an accredited college or university
MUST intend to pursue a career in TEACHING
Submit an essay "Tell us about a teacher who made an impact on your life and how do you plan to make an impact on the lives of your students?"
Students Matter Commerative Scholarship
Available to: James Wood, Millbrook and Sherando
Selection Committee: FCEF Awards Committee and donor representative
The recipient must meet the following criteria:
· Student in good standing
· Must have financial need
· Must include an essay entitled “How Covid Impacted My Education”
Wells Fargo Scholarship
Available to: James Wood, Millbrook and Sherando High Schools
A graduating student in good standing
Accepted and plans to attend a Virginia Community College
Patricia and Douglas Whitacre Memorial Scholarship (Scholarship #1)
Available to: James Wood, Millbrook and Sherando High Schools
The recipient must meet the following criteria:
Graduate of a Frederick County High School
Attendance in a degree program at a Virginia institution of higher learning, including vocational, training, and technical institutions
Exhibits academic ability
Patricia and Douglas Whitacre Memorial Scholarship (Scholarship #2)
Available to: James Wood, Millbrook and Sherando High Schools
The recipient must meet the following criteria:
Graduate of a Frederick County High School
Attendance in a degree program at a Virginia institution of higher learning, including vocational, training, and technical institutions
Financial need and a strong desire to excel
Winchester-Frederick County Bar Association/Michael M. Foreman Scholarship
Available to: James Wood, Millbrook and Sherando High Schools (one to each school)
The recipient must meet the following criteria:
Deserving student interested in pursuing studies in public service or law
Coach Rob Wright Memorial Scholarship
Available to: Sherando High School
The recipient must meet the following criteria:
Has been accepted and plans to attend an accredited college, university or vocational school
Must possess good character traits
A student in good standing
Preferable if student participated in golf, but any athletic participation is acceptable
